Development Team Leader

The Development Team Leader will spend up to 15% of their time taking on line management responsibilities for Developers and Graduates. The Development Team Leader is still primarily a hands-on Developer and will continue delivering coded solutions across the software technology stack. The Development Team Leader will take on all line management responsibilities, such as approval of annual leave or managing reports through sickness/absence procedures. They will also be responsible for taking direct reports through the annual PDI process, working with them to set objectives and supporting them in any additional personal development or training they need to meet those targets. They are expected to have at least a monthly 1 on 1 catch-up with direct reports to check in and make sure they are happy at work and catch any issues before the annual PDI interviews. There will be an element of mentoring and coaching for the team members to help them progress and develop their skills.

WHAT YOU’LL BE HANDLING

Manage a team of Software Developers and Graduates
Identify training needs and putting your team forward for training in order to fill these gaps
Conduct regular 1 to 1 meetings and annual PDI interviews to set objectives for your team
Act as a coach and mentor to the team
Take the lead on projects for the software department
Continue to carry out the duties of a Senior Software Developer
Provide support and cover for the Software Development Manager
Any other task deemed within scope for this role, e.g. temp. cover or support for the Development Manager

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Required

Strong people skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Good time/task management
Firm understanding of the TGW software tech stack and the skillset required by Developers in order to identify skills gaps
Able to work on own initiative and provide guidance to others

Preferred

Experience working as a Senior / Lead Developer or experienced Developer in the TGW WCS Development Team
Understanding of TGW HR Process and Policies
Understanding of the TGW PDI process
Leading, coaching and mentoring experience
