Technical Specialist - PLC


The Technical Specialist plays a key role in providing technical support and expertise for TGW control systems across the Northern Europe portfolio.

You will be responsible for supporting the performance, reliability, and optimisation of TGW automation systems, working closely with site teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure operational excellence is achieved.

This role is suited to an individual with a solid foundation in controls engineering and PLC systems who is looking to further develop their knowledge within TGW's automation environment. A structured development roadmap will be provided to support technical growth across TGW controls technologies, continuous improvement methodologies, and wider Operational Excellence activities.

You'll be working on customer sites across Northern Europe, therefore a willingness to travel regularly is required.


WHAT YOU’LL BE HANDLING

  • Identify and resolve technical issues efficiently, supporting customers and internal teams.
  • Support root cause analysis activities to identify and eliminate recurring faults.
  • Maintain, review, and improve technical documentation and standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the TGW portfolio.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical support during site visits, troubleshooting activities, and improvement projects.
  • Deliver Operational Excellence services in line with stakeholder expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, providing clear technical feedback and recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of training materials and knowledge-sharing activities for colleagues and end users.
  • Support onboarding and technical development of new team members where required.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of best practice standards across the controls discipline.
  • Maintain compliance with all Health & Safety requirements, including Risk Assessments (RAs), Method Statements, Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and COSHH requirements.
  • Actively engage in personal development activities and technical training as part of a structured controls development roadmap.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential:

  • Apprenticeship trained with qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of PLC controls, ideally Siemens.
  • Foundation knowledge of industrial automation and control systems.
  • Understanding of:

      • Industrial networking and hardware components.
      • Fieldbus technologies such as Profinet, Profibus, and AS-i.
      • Motion control systems including inverters and servo drives.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and panel drawings (EPLAN preferred).
  • Good fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with internal and external customers.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly motivated individual who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates a proactive and self-motivated approach to work.
  • Strong commitment to Environmental, Health & Safety standards.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience supporting PLC-based automation systems.
  • Exposure to Siemens PLC programming and diagnostics.
  • Experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of warehouse automation, material handling systems, or intralogistics solutions.
